Agility Robotics is heading to public markets through a SPAC merger that values the company at about $2.5 billion and is expected to bring in more than $620 million in proceeds. That is a meaningful capital event for any robotics company, but for humanoids it is more than a financing headline: it is a deployment test.
The new money is meant to expand production capacity for Digit v5, fulfill existing orders, and widen the customer base. That matters because humanoid robotics has spent years in the gap between demo and operations. Investors have been willing to fund the vision; operators are now asking a narrower question: can the robot show up on a factory or warehouse floor, work reliably enough to justify the integration effort, and do so at a cost that improves the site’s economics?
For Agility, that answer will be judged less by the SPAC valuation than by the speed and discipline of the production ramp. The company says it has secured more than $300 million in multi-year orders for Digit v5 and has a pipeline of more than 30 prospective customers evaluating large-scale deployments. That is a real demand signal. It is also a delivery burden. Once customers move from evaluation to purchase commitments, the hard work shifts to supply chain stability, manufacturing throughput, yield, and serviceability.
Digit v5 moves from promise to production problem
Digit is already operating at nine customer sites, including Schaeffler, GXO, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, and Mercado Libre. That footprint suggests the robot has moved beyond the proof-of-concept stage. But nine sites is not the same as a scaled fleet, and a few successful deployments do not eliminate the core manufacturing question: how quickly can Agility produce more units without compromising reliability?
That is why Digit v5 is the operational benchmark here. A humanoid program can attract attention with lab demos and pilot programs, but customers care about whether the production model can sustain repeatable performance across shifts, facilities, and use cases. Scaling from early deployments to multi-site rollouts usually exposes weak points that are invisible in a controlled pilot: part shortages, maintenance burden, calibration drift, software regressions, and downtime that ripples through an operator’s workflow.
The SPAC proceeds should ease some of that pressure by funding more production capacity. But capital alone does not create a manufacturing system. It has to be converted into tooling, supplier relationships, test infrastructure, field support, and quality control processes that hold up under volume. If the ramp is uneven, the company could find itself with more demand than it can reliably serve, which is a different kind of risk than lack of market interest.
The deployment reality is the real diligence item
Agility’s current customer list matters because it shows the robot is being asked to work in actual operations, not just in staged demonstrations. That is the right next step for humanoids, but it also raises the bar. Once a robot is inside a customer environment, the conversation changes from capability to integration: how long does deployment take, what support is required, how often does the system need intervention, and how much of the workflow can be handed over without creating new bottlenecks?
Operators evaluating humanoids are not buying a general-purpose vision of automation. They are buying labor substitution or labor augmentation against a very specific set of tasks, sites, and service commitments. That means the real question is whether Digit can deliver predictable cycle times and uptime in the field. If the robot requires too much hands-on maintenance, too much exception handling, or too much bespoke integration, the economics degrade quickly.
That is especially relevant for a company moving from a handful of deployments to dozens. Every additional site adds training, spare parts, remote monitoring, safety protocols, and local operating discipline. The costs do not scale linearly. Neither do the benefits. A robot that performs well in one environment can still create friction when it is pushed into a different layout, staffing model, or throughput target.
ROI will be measured in uptime, not valuation
The SPAC structure gives Agility more runway, but it also raises expectations. Public-market financing tends to sharpen the focus on profitability, and in hardware-based autonomy, profitability usually tracks operational maturity more than narrative momentum. For customers, the value question is even simpler: does Digit reduce labor pressure or improve throughput enough to justify the deployment cost, ongoing support, and internal change management required to make it stick?
That means site-level economics will matter more than headline numbers. Operators will look at uptime, cycle time, maintenance intervals, and service response. Investors should do the same. A strong order book is helpful, but it is not the same thing as durable unit economics. Multi-year commitments can also become a stress test if delivery schedules slip or field performance falls short of customer expectations.
This is the central tension in humanoid robotics right now. The sector can attract capital around the idea that a human-shaped machine can fit into human environments. Yet the return on that capital depends on whether the machine can actually operate in those environments with enough consistency to matter. The SPAC deal gives Agility more money and more visibility. It does not remove the burden of proof.

For operators and investors tracking physical AI deployment, the next milestones are not abstract. They are production output, site count, and field reliability.

Agility’s SPAC deal is best understood as a bet that humanoid robotics is moving from early validation into industrial rollout. The company now has the capital to make that transition faster. Whether it can execute on the factory floor, in the warehouse, and inside customer operations will determine whether the $2.5 billion valuation looks like a starting point or an overhang.
